Dan Walton
Tyson Maintenance Technician
“There are certain things that need to be done all the time. For instance, clearing trees off the sides of the roads. Trees are always encroaching on the roads and we always have to get out there and cut them down, clear them away. But from day to day you never know what's going to happen, what you're going to need to do.”
You are here year-round. What are some things you like about the summertime, or the wintertime? Do things change at Tyson when the seasons change?
“Definitely. It's a lot quieter around here in the winter time. The students aren't around. I kinda like it quiet, but then again, I kind of like the energy that the students bring in. Everybody picks up their pace in the summer.”
It's a lot more work for you guys then.
“Yeah, definitely a lot more work in the summer, mainly just because of all the growing that's going on. We have to mow, we have to cut trees, things like that. It keeps us a lot busier in the summer.”
What is something that's been enjoyable about working at Tyson?
“There's a lot that I enjoy. I love being outside most of the time, except for when it's really cold. I enjoy learning new stuff, things that I've never known and always wanted to learn. I enjoy the people I work with a lot.”
