“What really got me into actually wanting to do something with the environment was taking a field biology class in high school. During seventh period, we would go to Little Creek Nature Center, take hikes, identify trees, and talk about all the animals they had. I knew then that I wanted to be outside, way more than inside.”

Anahi, a recent graduate from Southeast Missouri State University, studied environmental science with an emphasis in environmental health. Her split focus between these concentrations gives her the flexibility to trace the trail of any environmental factor from the chemicals in the stream to the policies in the courtroom. Anahi also supports increasing diversity in STEM, with a focus on women and minorities. In the future she plans on gaining as much experience as possible at different field sites to round out her passion for all things environmental.

“Our team is so diverse. We come from different backgrounds, different schools, and we get along really well. There’s no one sense of humor or one way of talking that fits with the group. Everyone is equally different, if that makes any sense.”

Anahi worked with Solny Adalsteinsson's Tick & Wildlife Ecology team during summer 2019. Learn more about their prescribed fire and tick-borne disease ecology research here.
