Can you describe what you are doing right now?

“I am weeding the ground.”

Do you have duct tape out here for removing ticks?

“No, there are usually no ticks.”

You are very optimistic. There’s one right here!

“And to think I felt safe.”

Do you have an ideal topic to research?

“Last summer I worked in a greenhouse all summer at the botanical garden. I really liked working in that environment. I think I want to do urban ecology. Cities are pretty. Plants are pretty. I applied for a research program this past year and I wrote a lot about how I want to establish native plant communities as landscaping in cities; not just pretty, but also functional.”

Jacob worked with Scott Mangan and Claudia Stein's Natural Enemies team during summer 2018. Learn more about their plant-microbial communities research here.
