Astronomical observations with the Tyson optical observatory

The Tyson Observatory has a 14 inch Celestron optical telescope. Construction to install an updated dome was completed earlier this year and work to get the telescope operational is being finished this Fall. The dark-sky conditions at the site make the Tyson Observatory a perfect complement to the Crow Observatory located in the main campus. The Crow Observatory telescope is used for diverse outreach activities and supports astronomy courses in Physics and Earth and Planetary Sciences Departments. During the 2021-2022 academic year we will start incorporating observations at the Tyson Observatory in our curriculum. These may include students processing images and photometry data obtained by instructors using the Tyson Observatory as well as observatory visits with a reduced number of students.
