Tyson tick expert helps public understand tick ecology and disease

May 8, 2018

The room was packed at the Daniel Boone Branch of the St. Louis County Library as Tyson Staff Scientist Dr. Solny Adalsteinsson gave a public talk on ticks, tick-borne diseases in Missouri, and prevention strategies. The crowd was very engaged and Solny fielded questions for nearly 45 minutes after her presentation.

The TickEncounter Resource Center at the University of Rhode Island is a good site for learning more about tick bite protection and tick-borne disease prevention. However, keep in mind that some of the information may be specific to the East Coast and not applicable in Missouri.

Learn more about Solny's research in prescribed fire and tick-borne disease ecology and read about a recent publication on Lone star tick abundance.
