Studies simultaneously considering woody and herbaceous strata in forests are rare and foundation species may have different, significant effects on each. Graduate student Anna Wassel is studying how the presence of a candidate foundation species, pawpaw (Asimina triloba), affects the herbaceous community’s taxonomic and trait diversity in the Tyson ForestGEO plot.
