Local collaboration puts St. Louis on the map for international urban wildlife research

Jan 9, 2019

Tyson Research Center has joined forces with Professor Whitney Anthonysamy (St. Louis College of Pharmacy) to make St. Louis a study area in the Urban Wildlife Information Network (UWIN). Using motion-triggered cameras and standardized methods, researchers monitor wildlife activity on public and some private lands extending from urban, downtown St. Louis through rural, southwestern St. Louis County. This work will help us learn more about which wildlife species are in the St. Louis region and how they use local urban, suburban, and rural habitats. By joining the larger network, we will contribute to a greater understanding of wildlife diversity and habitat use across urban landscapes. Ultimately, this research aims to inform policy and urban planning efforts to conserve wildlife and make greener cities.
