Derek McFarland, 2018 Tyson Undergraduate Fellow and SLU McNair Scholar, won first prize and $1,000 for his presentation at the 19th National Role Models Conference in Washington, D.C. Derek is a junior at Harris-Stowe State University, and he has been on the presentation circuit lately, sharing his research on the prevalence of Babesia sp. parasites in a population of Carolina Wrens at Tyson Research Center.
In addition to the National Role Models Conference, Derek has presented during fall 2018 at: the MOKANNE McNair Heartland Research Conference in Kansas City, MO; the Inland Bird Banding Organization meeting in Valley Park, MO; and the Washington University Undergraduate Research Symposium. In 2019, Derek will return to Washington D.C. to present at the Emerging Researchers National Conference in STEM.
