Tyson Resident Artist
Professor Emeritus of Art
“I am 72 years old, and my friends complain that I am constantly in motion. But this is my life’s passion. I am making the best work of my career: now.”
Emeritus Professor Stan Strembicki is full of light and passion. Step into his studio to find hundreds of pieces of his realized inspiration. All are welcome.
“I’ve been a storyteller my whole life. I was raised in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. I was an altar boy at Sunday school. And I was a junior cub photographer for a weekly newspaper, taking pictures of high school sports, car accidents, house fires, new flags at the library… but it wasn’t until I met a very influential professor as a sophomore in college who taught me that photography could be a way of creative self-expression, and not just a way to document an event.
We all have an image of ourselves. I have an image of myself as this former hipster professor who is now this older, supposedly wiser guy. I think photography reveals people’s inner feelings about themselves and how they choose to represent themselves. It is an honor to get know people’s stories and help them to feel more themselves through capturing their photos.”
