I studied salamanders and biogeography. So like, why are things distributed where they are, geographic patterns of diversity, how those change over space and time.

Right now I'm part of the mosquito lab working for Katie [Westby] and Kim [Medley]. I knew very little about mosquitoes before thinking I was gonna get this position. It’s been really fun to learn a completely new system, but also a big adjustment. In a lot of ways it’s way easier than salamanders because I can literally put out a bucket and just collect mosquitoes. With salamanders I would hike around at night and not find anything a lot of the time. Also the public is really interested in what you’re doing when you work on something like mosquitoes. Because everyone encounters them, to put it nicely

I also like the Tyson atmosphere a lot. Kim and Katie have a really good lab running; I think they have a really positive lab culture, and they do really cool science. I feel like they’re both really open-minded and it’s just a cool study system.

I’m learning a lot from the undergrads. They’re teaching me tons of things, especially on the hands-on side, lab protocol and things like that.
