Pete Jamerson
Tyson Facilities Manager
In past Humans of Tyson profiles you mentioned that you really enjoyed the peace and nature of the Tyson campus. How has this daily experience been affected by a lack of researchers physically present at Tyson?
“It has made it better. The wildlife seems even more relaxed with less people moving about. I prefer peace and quiet, so not hearing people talking outside of my office has been quite enjoyable.”
You’ve built solutions to some unique problems out at Tyson. What is one you’ve found particularly rewarding to work on?
“I’ve had the chance to work on quite a few projects here at Tyson. It’s hard to pick just one as being my favorite. The ultimate goal has always been to improve the infrastructure, make things reliable and cost effective. As far as things go that I invented from random parts with a budget that did not exceed $50.00 to $75.00 dollars, it would have to be the brine system we came up with by using old parts laying around. The system worked like a champ the first time we tried it and it reduced the amount of salt being put on our roads by more than half. The second project that I was the most fond of would have to be the geothermal project. The third would be getting the network upgraded from not much more than a dial-up modem network to a modern gigabit Ethernet network.”
Is there anything someone outside of Tyson should know about the facility and your role?
“I don’t care about attention, what I do here at Tyson is about making Tyson more user-friendly with a modern updated infrastructure. I’ve seen Tyson go from a very archaic field station to a very green and modern field station over the last 15 years and I am proud to have played a role in that.”
